글의 목적

준 사역동사 help는 3형식과 5형식으로 주로 사용된다. 5형식으로 사용 될 때 원형부정사 목적격 보어로 사용하여 해석에 어려움을 준다. help의 어법을 확실히 분석하여 해석의 어려움을 극복하자.

하나. help 뜻과 품사

동사와 명사로 사용되며 기본적인 뜻은 “도움을 주다”라는 뜻으로 쓰이며 가끔 숙어로 “~피하다” 뜻으로 쓰일 때가 있다.

명사

명사로 쓰일 때는 “도움”이라는 뜻으로 특별히 주의 해야 할 용법은 없다.

• I need your help with this project.
• (이 프로젝트에 대해 당신의 도움이 필요해요.)

• Can you give me some help with these calculations?
• (이 계산에 대해 도와줄 수 있나요?)

동사

동사로 3형식, 5형식으로 주로 사용되며 특히 5형식으로 사용 될 때 준 사역 동사로 부르기도 한다. 목적격 보어로 to부정사와 to없는 원형 부정사를 모두 쓸 수 있다.

1. help + 명사

2. help + that 절

• It didn’t help that he was late to the meeting.
• (그가 회의에 늦은 것이 도움이 안 되었습니다.)

• It won’t help that you’re ignoring the problem.
• (문제를 무시한다고 해서 도움이 될 것 같지 않습니다.)

3. help + to 부정사

The guide dog helped to cross the busy street.

My friend helped to move the heavy furniture.

4. help + 원형부정사

The charity helps provide food for those in need.

• 그 자선 단체는 필요한 사람들에게 식품을 제공하는 것을 돕습니다.

• (그녀는 자선 행사를 조직하는데 돕기 위해 자원 봉사 했습니다.)

셋. help 5형식

1. help + 명사 + to부정사

I helped her to finish her assignment.

She always helps students to improve their language skills.

• (나는 그녀가 과제를 마치는데 도와주었다.)

• (그녀는 항상 학생들이 언어 실력을 향상시키는데 돕습니다.)

2. help + O + 원형부정사

She helped us find our lost keys.

The new software helps companies manage their task more efficiently.

5형식 문장에서 마치 사역동사처럼 목적격 보어로 to없는 원형 부정사를 사용 할 수 있다.

목적격 보어로 원형 부정사를 사용하는 것을 사역동사라 하며 help는 to부정사와 원형부정사 모두 사용 할 수 있어 준 사역동사라 부른다.

• She helped us find our lost keys.
• (그녀는 우리의 잃어버린 열쇠를 찾는 데 도움을 줬다.)

• The new software helps companies manage their task more efficiently.

help는 5형식으로 사용될 때 준 사역 동사이다. 목적격 보어로 to부정사 또는 원형 부정사를 사용한다. 원형 부정사는 to부정사에서 to가 없는 부정사를 말한다.
